Three Little PigsMay 21, 2010 AJ_RS(London) One of the better illustrated Ladybird books. The story rambles a bit but the text is still simple enough for our 3-year old who now loves repeating "by the hair on my chinny chin chin" and "I'll huff and I'll puff". Still prefer the illustrations in disney books but paper quality of ladybird books is way better.

Not the story you remember, can't remember the wolf asking the pig to the fair!!!???
I ended up pulling pages out of this book to make it readable.
A little bit too PC, words scattered all over the page and pictures too small to make for a good bed time read.
AVOID!

This book for young children has hidden depths. It is a child's first introduction to Building Regulations. Two gorgeous little piggies build houses out of inferior materials (straw and sticks respectively). The Planning Department are notified and send round an inspector in the form of a big bad wolf. He not only demolishes the buildings, but also eats the poor little piggies for his lunch. (try explaining THAT to your children!) The third little piggy, apparantly oblivious of the death of his brothers/sisters, pushes the boundaries of science and builds his house from bricks. The planning inspector, after many attempts to gain entry by the normal methods, is forced to enter via the chimney. Shock, horror, the third little piggie is waiting for him and, fearing a rejection of planning permission, catches the inspector (wolf) and boils him alive in a vat of boiling water. (try explaining THAT to your children!) Amazingly no court case ensues, the third little pig is never charged with murder or made aware of the death of his siblings and lives happily ever after!
Seriously, a great little book by Ladybird, well illustrated and well worth the money. My two year old granddaughter loves it being read to her, particularly the 'Huffs' and the 'Puffs'! Highly recommended.
Almost as good as the originals!December 8, 2009 Anna Karenina These little books are very good value as children want to hear them over and over again. These traditional tales are much better than modern stories and children need to know all these tales as they are used in primary schools in the National Curriculum. They seem to have preserved the original 1960's text with the essential repetition of key phrases which even small children can soon learn to join in with. The best thing is that there is usually something a little scary in these stories or a problem to be solved which really fires children's imaginations unlike some of the very dull, tame story books I have seen on sale recently. Even when children know the ending, they still want to hear the story again and again just to make sure everything ends happily!
